In addition to the three and a half year training programme run by SGSAH for AHRC DTP funded students, you can request funding to support individual training and development needs. For example, in some instances your stipend may be extended to allow you to gain vital skills or to complete an internship with an industry partner. We have a number of funding schemes to which you can apply:

  • Doctoral Internship/Artist in Residence: an opportunity to explore career options outside of academia and experience something difference from PhD research, including international placements (three months’ additional stipend for fully-funded students, travel and accommodation as required)
  • Visiting Doctoral Researcher: access additional supervisory support that is located in an HEI beyond the SGSAH AHRC DTP and study at prestigious institutions worldwide. (travel, accommodation and bench fee for up to six months);
  • Specialist training: specific training opportunities which would enhance your PhD (course costs/fees, travel and accommodation and additional stipend where the training exceeds one month);
  • Second-language learning: this may be undertaken in combination with an international internship or a Visiting Doctoral Researcher position, utilising existing international links of our partnership (additional stipend and course costs);
  • Knowledge Exchange & Impact: available to support collaborative research approaches and dissemination of findings
  • Conference attendance: to present research at national and international conferences (travel and accomodation)

Cohort Development Funding is available for doctoral researchers to collaborate on designing and managing the delivery of inter/disciplinary, generic, careers-focused events. Recent workshops and events supported via CDF include:

  • FIELDWORK: sites and infrastructures in the environmental humanities;
