University of Stirling Collections
Published: 4 October 2023
We would like to work with a Collections intern to undertake a cataloguing and digitisation project.
Please note researchers registered at the University of Stirling to study are not eligible to apply for this internship.
Location
Pathfoot Building, University of Stirling, Stirling. FK9 4LA
The internship will be a mix of in person and remote working. The intern could undertake some of the cataloguing work remotely. However, digitisation work and collections care work would need to be undertaken in person.
Project
The University of Stirling Collections has recently expanded its remit to include the ceremonial collection, Science collection and furniture collection alongside the Accredited Art Collection.
University Collections use a combination of CALM for Archives for archival papers and Axiell Collections for museum objects. The intern would be using both these collections management systems alongside working on the University Scan Studio to undertake digitisation work.
Outputs
- Fully catalogued archive collection of Artist Files for the University Art Collection using CALM for Archives
- Cataloguing work to add the University furniture Collections to Axiell Collections
- Digitisation of new acquisitions to the Collection
Timescale
Start date (or must start by): Flexible

Benefits to the Researcher
The Researcher will gain experience of working in a museum environment, in particular they will gain training in cataloguing in museum collections databases such as Axiell Collections and CALM for archives, develop their understanding of collections care and develop new contacts and relationships through the University Museums in Scotland network and academic staff at the University of Stirling.
They will also develop their knowledge of the history of Art.
Key Relationships
The intern will work with Art Collection staff including the Head of University Collections, Deputy Head of University Collections, Research and Documentation officer and Collections Officer.
The intern will work across Culture on Campus with a range of colleagues including curators and archivists. In addition they will be in contact with academics in the institution to assist in the research work needed for the project.
The research element of the project will also involve contact with artists and curators at other institutions.
