Arts Evaluation and Impact Placement | The intern would work within our small staff team focusing on tasks relating to using data, developing research and statistical information, evaluation and how this relates to fundraising and charity management.
Location
Bill Scott Sculpture Centre, 21 Hawthornvale, Edinburgh, EH6 4JT
Project
The Intern would work within our small staff team focusing on tasks relating to using data, developing research and statistical information, evaluation and how this relates to fundraising and charity management. The Intern would be asked to get to know the organisation and be actively involved in our operations in order to understand the desk-based tasks and research which we use to back up and deepen the ways we can articulate our work. They will also get to know how this information can be used by a small nonprofit arts organisation, in receipt of public funding and with its own income generation potential and its board of voluntary trustees.
Outputs
- Gain understanding about the type of information, evaluation and analysis which is needed when applying to and using public funding.
- Gain knowledge through research into fundraising from trusts and foundations.
- Gain understanding of how information is sought and used within day to day communication within a small arts organisation.
- Gain understanding of the governance of an arts charity covering the baselines of Statutory Reporting and relationship with the voluntary board.
- Analysis of our space use / bookings.
- Research into our context / locale / sector and comparison to ESW.
- Support in doing focus groups and analysing feedback from different sources.
Timescale
Start date (or must start by) 20/01/24
End date (or must end by) expected to end around 14/12/24
We might be able to be flexible about this but one pattern could be: 1 day a week for around 48 weeks (if this would be possible) with a couple of more intensive weeks at key points (for example in spring 2023). Blocks of time could also be considered.
Benefits to the Researcher
The Intern will get a hands on and intellectually stimulating insight into the work needed in dealing with information and evaluation within an arts organisation.
They will be able to work on satisfying projects of analysis and research which will make a difference to our organisation.
They will gain a lot of knowledge which is transferrable to their own practice or another organisation.
Key Relationships
- ESW’s Director along with Curator for Research and other staff.
- Studio Holders, International Residents and other Members.
- Audience Members.
- Other arts professionals, partners and peers.
