Impact Arts
Published: 4 October 2023
Mapping Impact Arts’ work which encompasses employability, mental health, alternative curriculum and older people’s isolation across local and national policies.
Location
The Boardwalk, 105 Brunswick Street, Glasgow G1 1TF
We have a Glasgow office base where the intern could be based however we are open to hybrid or remote working to attract the right candidate. We could deliver this entirely remotely although we’d welcome some opportunities for face-to-face meetings over the course of the internship.
Project:
Mapping Impact Arts’ work which encompasses employability, mental health, alternative curriculum and older people’s isolation across local and national policies.
Impact Arts is an arts charity that transforms lives through creativity. Our work delivers across a wide range of National and Local policy areas ranging from employability to education; health and wellbeing to homelessness and criminal justice. What is unique to our work is that we employ up to 100 artists and creatives each year to deliver on our impact, working with upwards of 4000 people, many of whom are living with the effects of poverty and the inequalities that exist in society.
This research project will provide Impact Arts with clear Policy papers for each of our areas of work, linked to key policy makers and an over arching policy maker and influencing strategy. We do not currently have the inhouse expertise or capacity to carry out this work however we have identified that this area of work is a necessity in terms of driving forward our credibility with a range of funders and stakeholders to ensure that we can achieve the objectives set out in our ambitious 2023-28 Strategy.
Outputs
- Mapping of Impact Arts’ core areas of work across National and local policy.
- Draft Policy papers for each area of work outlining how they align to the relevant policies, opportunities, key messages we can use when discussing our work. E.g. creative employability, art therapy, alternative curriculum, tackling older people’s isolation.
- Research into relevant partners/ organisations leading on each policy area and key policymaker contacts.
- Draft Policymaker/ influencing strategy.
Timescale
We are flexible what this looks like in terms of timescale. Preference would be for a longer engagement over part time hours as we want to ensure we have sufficient capacity to provide enough support for the amount of work being undertaken.
Benefits to the Researcher
The intern will gain valuable research skills during the internship, a strong knowledge of Government policy and experience of how these policy areas can translate directly into service delivery.
They will gain insights into the work of the third sector, a significantly large sector in Scotland.
Key Relationships
The researcher will work directly with the Leadership team at Impact Arts but will have opportunities to consult with our key stakeholders within Government and local authorities.
They will have opportunities to visit our creative arts workshops and to speak to participants so that they can see first hand how policy translates into practice.
