Research Interests:

Contemporary opera; film and opera (exploring the genre of ‘film opera’ and the integration of video art and digital technologies into operatic production); commissioning models for opera (current models and the exploration of potential new models); American contemporary classical music and opera; Scottish contemporary music; the intersection of music and design in the operatic process; the adaption of literature for stage and screen; increasing access and diversity in classical music.

Situating Omar: the use of transvestism in The Death of Klinghoffer as an embodiment of the work's duality in terms of structure, narrative and representation of gender and ethnicity
