Scottish Graduate School for Arts & Humanities

Partnership PhD Awards

SGSAH’s Partnership PhD Awards (PPAs) fund doctoral research projects that are developed in collaboration with external organisations across creative, heritage, third and business sectors based in Scotland. The projects designed and supervised by two higher education institutions (HEIs) and at least one other partner.

PPAs (previously ARCS) develop collaborations between SGSAH’s HEIs and non-HEI organisations and businesses across Scotland, to provide valuable opportunities for doctoral students to gain first-hand professional experience out-with the university environment. The support provided by both an HEI and non-HEI supervisor together enhances the employment-related skills and training a research student gains during their award.

PPAs are supported by the Scottish Funding Council, which funds 50% of the costs of each studentship. The remaining 50% of costs will be met by HEIs (in a 25%-25% split).
