The Covid-19 global pandemic has radically changed how we go about our lives, personal and professional, almost overnight. The necessity of some degree of physical (social) distancing is likely to continue for the foreseeable future with intermittent lockdowns coming into force in different jurisdictions at different times. The implications for life on university campuses is profound, and there will be particular ramifications for particular disciplines, not least for Archaeology and Classics.
This online workshop aims to take stock of this situation, and to identify certain challenges (and indeed opportunities) presented in particular to PhD researchers in Archaeology and Classics at different stages of their degree. Topics to be covered will include: organising your research project under lockdown; online supervision; doing viva voce examinations (and interviews) online; teaching and tutoring online (for current graduate tutors and for those entering the academic job market); organising workshops and other academic events after Covid; online academic communities.
An indicative schedule is as follows:
10.00-10.15 Introduction
10.15-11.15 PhD research during an international crisis: from Year 1 to the online viva
11.15-11.30 Online job interviews
11.30-11.45 Break
11.45-12.30 Building and running online courses in Classics and Archaeology
