Confronting Shadows - Mindful and Ethical Communication of Sensitive Content

Confronting Shadows: Mindful and Ethical Communication of Sensitive Content

22nd November 2019, St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Glasgow

Are you a doctoral researcher whose research involves studying sensitive materials that could potentially trigger or upset your audience? Have you ever struggled to interpret and present these materials in a mindful and ethical manner? Do you wish you had a like-minded peer network that could help guide and support you through your research?

'Confronting Shadows: Mindful and Ethical Communication of Sensitive Content' is a day-long workshop which will offer PhD students the opportunity to reflect upon their methods of working with sensitive material. The workshop will bring together cross-institutional students from a range of disciplines with a selected group of speakers who regularly work with and communicate sensitive materials and topics. Through a series of presentations, activities, and discussions attendees will be encouraged to reflect on their current research and communication practices, to learn new approaches and gain confidence when researching and presenting sensitive materials. The workshop also aims to provide a platform for a peer network that will create a space for longer-term support and discussion for those who would like to continue the conversation.

The event is free and open to all SGSAH Higher Education Institutions. However, as places are limited, please register your interest and answer a couple of questions regarding your research.
