Past incoming EARTH Scholars are invited to submit proposals to take part in the Impact Symposium, celebrating and showcasing the EARTH Scholarships programme, on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 in Glasgow.
As a culmination of the British Council Scotland SGSAH EARTH Scholarships, SGSAH is undertaking an EARTH Scholarships Impact Programme, which will include a publication and an Impact Symposium. Past incoming EARTH Scholars are invited to submit proposals to take part in the Impact Symposium, celebrating and showcasing the EARTH Scholarships programme, on Wednesday 22nd April 2026 in Glasgow.
The day will be preceded on Tuesday 21st April 2026 by an EARTH Scholars reunion event in Glasgow, including members of the Scotland-based PhD researchers who joined the EARTH Scholarships Cohort Programme in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The purpose of the Impact Symposium is to showcase the EARTH Scholarships programme, to stakeholders from government, academia, third sector organisations and other interested entities and individuals. The Symposium will feature roundtable presentations from incoming EARTH Scholars, presenting in themed panels with their mentors and/or representatives of communities with whom they worked during their EARTH Scholarship, or arose subsequently from their work. This community could be in Scotland, or elsewhere.
The three roundtables will be themed along the lines of the existing thematic EARTH Scholarship Clusters. It is anticipated that 3-4 scholars’ work will be showcased in each roundtable. Please note that as there have been some shifts in HEIs and Clusters, scholars are invited to apply for whichever panel(s) is most appropriate to their proposal, rather than necessarily the Cluster within which they originally were allocated. The Clusters are:
There will also be opportunities to create poster presentations, both for in-person or remote attendance. The day will conclude with an overall Reflections Panel, on the work of the EARTH Scholarships.
SGSAH will be able to support the return of a selection of EARTH Scholars to Scotland with a travel bursary, and provide accommodation from Monday 20th April to Thursday 23rd April (i.e., 3 nights in total). Funding is limited so a selection process from applications will take place, to ensure spread across geographies (of the HEI origin and/or background of scholars, and the Scottish HEI they attended), the Cluster themes, and the scholarship year.
The call for applications will take place via SGSAH’s Survey Monkey Apply platform, and closes on Friday 14th November 2025 at 12pm GMT.
Please note the application process is **only** for incoming EARTH Scholars from 2023, 2024 and 2025 – Scotland-based PhD researchers who joined the Cohort Programme will be contacted separately about potential modes of participation, including for the EARTH Scholars Reunion day on Tuesday 21st April. It is anticipated that outcomes will be communicated to scholars by Friday 5th December 2025.
To apply as an incoming EARTH Scholar to contribute to the roundtable discussions and/or the poster presentations, please click the button below.
Roundtable contributions are expected to showcase the impact of your EARTH Scholarship, during the time in which it took place or subsequently, or both. We invite applications from EARTH Scholars to speak in conversation with their mentor and/or a representative of communities with whom they worked during their EARTH Scholarship, or arose subsequently from their work. We anticipate that EARTH scholars will be speaking in person, however we can accommodate online contributions to ensure wider accessibility and inclusion. The mentor/community representative could be in-person or speaking online. We anticipate 2-3 EARTH Scholars on each roundtable (i.e., between 6 and 9 in total). EARTH Scholars are asked to make an application in up to 300 words, detailing what they would intend to speak about, and with whom.
