GDPR, the Data Protection Act and the Confidentiality. These should not be barriers to research use of personal data – but they can be when there are misunderstandings between researchers, archivists, records creators and research subjects. This presentation and discussion will look at what the law says and what researchers can do to maximise their chances of accessing original sources from the last 100 years and to work ethically and legally with information captured directly from individuals. Frank Rankin is an information governance consultant with 30 years of experience.
