Women Creating Scotland: Women's Impact on the Creative and Artistic Industries 1918-2018
Issued: Fri, 27 Jul 2018 12:57:00 BST
Event Date: 17/8/18
The Women Creating Scotland Team are organising a multidisciplinary conference taking place on the 17th August 2018 at Glasgow Women’s Library.
The event will celebrate the women who have helped to shape Scotland through the creative and artistic industries since 1918, when some women successfully gained the right to vote within the UK. By celebrating this historic landmark this event will create an overview of the impact women have had on Scotland’s rich built environment and internationally renowned cultural and written heritage over the last 100 years. The conference will be an opportunity for attendees to hear from fellow students, academics, artists, writers and practitioners outside of their usual advisory backgrounds.
We will also be joined by Gerda Stevenson who will provide a reading from her latest poetry collection QUINES: Poems in tribute to women of Scotland, which was published this International Women's Day.
The conference is generously funded by the Scottish Graduate School of Arts & Humanities and the University of Glasgow. Tickets are limited and priority will be given to postgraduate students and early career researchers. Attendance to the conference is free but booking is required via Eventbrite.
Limited spaces are also available for a workshop with Iona Barker from Say It Ain’t Sew following the conference.
