The Moon is a new magazine linking arts researchers and artists in Scotland with a wider public: Their aim is to make art and arts research interesting, engaging and accessible for people who do not ordinarily engage in academia or the arts world. Whilst currently an online magazine, it aims to be available across Scotland in print and for free by the end of the year.


The magazine is looking for submissions from any arts or humanities discipline, and from researchers at any career level. Submissions should be written in the tone of an average lifestyle magazine: a playful, humorous, and/or engaging style is recommended, and a non-academic audience should be kept in mind. They also welcome creative and innovative formats which challenge the conventions of academic and magazine writing, as well as collaborative projects.


Submissions should bein the form of a 300-word outline or introduction to what you would like to write about, sent to You should also provide eye-catching, high-quality images relating to the article.


They are also looking for all manner of interesting, engaging content, from any kind of artist, which you are happy to provide for free in exchange for advertising links to upcoming events, social media, online shops and/or websites. The content should contain some visual element (if you are a musician or writer you could include the cover for your book or album, or an accompanying illustration, so long as there is no conflicting copyright or intellectual property.
